Remembering and sharing · Chapter 11

Browsing and searching the journal

The journal holds every day you have written a page for, the newest at the top. You browse it like a magazine or read it as a timeline, search for a word and filter by tag. Above the list it says how many days you have written down so far, and since when.

Blog or timeline

At the top right you switch the view. “Blog” shows large cards with the cover, with the newest day big at the top. “Timeline” groups the days by month, one line per day with a small picture, and shows more at a glance. Your choice applies on every device. You can also set it under “My account”, “Look” tab, card “Journal layout”.

Journal
The journal as a blog: at the top the search field Search texts and notes and tags such as family 125, mia 71 and work 62, below the day Leaves in the hall as a large card with a drawn house in autumn, and smaller cards for A good Monday, Rainy day with a jigsaw and Up to the lookout tower
The journal as a blog, the newest day large.
Journal
The journal as a timeline: under the heading of the month one line per day, with date, title, the start of the text, the main value, tags and, on some days, the mark shared, and a small cover on the right
The same days as a timeline, grouped by month.

nexdiary loads more days when you reach the end, or with “Load more”. Small marks on the days tell you whether one is “shared”, whether it was “written up with AI” and whether it is locked. Only days with a page are listed. A day on which you only entered values or tags is not a page yet.

Above the list stands your shelf with a volume for each year, once you have written your first page. Tap a volume and the journal shows only that year, tap again and it shows everything. How a volume becomes a book is in the chapter Shelf and book.

Searching

  1. Tap the search field

It is called “Search texts and notes” and sits above the list.

  2. Type a word

After a short pause nexdiary shows the results with the match highlighted, and next to the field how many there are.

  3. Open a result

The search covers the titles, texts, tags and notes of your days. Days that have only notes show up too, marked “Notes only, no page yet”.

If nothing turns up, it says “Nothing found. Maybe it was written differently?”. At most 50 results are shown, and a search term can be up to 100 characters long. You only ever search your own diary, never anybody else's.

Filtering by tag

Below the search field are your tags, each with the number of its days. A tap shows only the days with that tag, and “All” lifts the filter again. That way you find every day tagged holiday, or every day Mia played a part in, if you tagged them mia.

Reading a day

Tap a card to open the day. At the top is the cover, then the date, the title and the text just as you wrote it, followed by photos, tags and values. A line says whether the day is “Only for you” or who it is shared with, and who sent a heart. Your notes from the day lie folded away below.

If you wrote on the same day a year earlier, a card “One year ago today” leads there. If you answered the family question that day, it appears with the others' answers. “← Journal” takes you back to the list, and how to share a day is in the chapter Sharing.

Good to knowDays with notes but no page are not listed. The card for catching up above the list shows them, and the search finds their notes as well.
